Studio 408 is offering a full schedule of youth and adult classes for 2017.
Children’s classes begin Jan 9 for ages 4-18 in Creative Movement, Modern Dance, Hip-Hop, and Circus Arts. Designed to be non-competitive, all classes focus on developing the individual’s somatic awareness, creative voice, and performance skills. Make sure not to miss FREE WEEK Jan 9-13!
The adult program, which begins on Jan 16 has expanded its weekly offerings to include Sudden Shifts :: Movement Training for the Resistance, a Compositional Improvisation class w/ world-renowned improviser Katherine Ferrier, along with biweekly Contact Improvisation Jams and our regular Sunday Master Class series Moving Target Portland featuring a rotation of notable guest artists.
In addition, we have launched a Saturday Night series, a once-monthly evening event that provides structured experiments in performance and community building. Our performance nights, on Feb 18 and April 15 follow a similar format to the AUNTS and SALTA performance series in Brooklyn and Oakland, in which the audience will move about the room and enjoy overlapping performances by local artists, drinks, and conversation. Those interested in performing can learn more about our curation process here.
Our dance party nights--March 11 & May 13--inspired by beloved Moving Target Portland teacher Chani Bockwinkel's Sappho & Sweat class, will be lightly facilitated queer dance parties for everybody in which participants of all identities are invited to dress up and dance in community.
